Itinerary

Your Pick up from Dehradun railway station will be at 7:00 am. We’ll head straight to Sankari which is approximately 200 kms. Breakfast and Lunch will be taken on your way to Sankari (2000 meter). The drive is a delightful one as the path takes you along the Yamuna, exquisite Tons river and pine forests. Once you reach Sankri that is steeped in natural beauty, check into the hotel .

After having breakfast, we will set out on a moderate hike which, for the most part, goes through the forest. We will walk to Saur village and then climb up till we reach a small pond, Juda-ka-Talab, which is frozen during winters. As we continue climbing up, we will get fleeting glimpses of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. One more hour of hiking will take us to the meadows where we will camp overnight, in tents.

Today’s trail is short and again begins through dense forests of pine and oak trees only and through steep ridge and much more dense areas, this is about to take 2-3 hours to reach the open highlands below the summit. This is one of the finest stretches on this trail as the natural beauty is unbelievable and promises to leave behind an unforgettable memory. As you move forward into forest suddenly at the end forest trails you start to see a wide meadow stretching in front of mighty Dhauladhar Ranges. This camping site has excellent picturesque views and is the main highlight of the trek. You can roam around this place easily and can soak all the fresh tidings of nature’s gift. Camp here for overnight stay.

The distance to the summit is not long but is reasonably steep and walking on snow makes it more tiring and time consuming. We will, depending upon the snow conditions select the best route leading to the summit. Today you will begin early that is around 4.30 am in the morning. It will take anywhere between 4.5 – 5.5 hours to reach to summit. One can relax at the top for some time and enjoy the magical beauty of nature and then descend towards base camp by noon time. After reaching the camp take a break for lunch and refreshments. Once relaxed, set out for descending furthermore to Hargaon camp. This time again, it’s a journey back through dense oak forests, pine and maple trees, shepherd huts and frozen streams.

Today you will be heading towards Sankri from where it all started approximately 6 km long trail counting about 4 hours. After breakfast, we will descend through a more marked well paved route, laden with stones. A trail further the trail leads to a ridge from where you get a splendid view of Har ki Dun valley. After reaching Sankri by noon, get settled in for an overnight stay in guest house/camp/home stay.

After breakfast board the vehicles and start driving back towards Dehradun. The distance takes about  7-8 hours to reach excluding the break times so the earlier one starts its always the better. Cherish the picturesque beauty of the location, the avid beauty of nature, the stretched landscapes, the verdant meadows and splendid ambience that pleases the heart in every way.

Itinerary

Drive from Dehradun to Pantwari village via Mussoorie, Kempty falls. Will reach Pantwari village starting point of the trek which is is located in Dhanaulti Tehsil of Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. There are three routes that you could take to go to Nag Tibba. This one via Pantwari village is the shortest, with a total trail distance of 8 km from Panthwari Village to the Nag Tibba Summit. However, we will not go all the way to the summit today but stop at Khatian(camp 1), 4.5 km from Panthwari.

Rise early to get a head start as it is going to be a long day with lot of walking to do. From Camp 1, locate a trail towards the right going straight into the forest.

The estimated time it takes to reach Nag Tibba Base is around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Nag Tibba Base is a large clearing with a temple dedicated to the Serpent God.

You get a view of the Garhwal peaks through the forest. In winter one will encounter a lot of snow here. The snow makes the climb more challenging. It can take anywhere between  1 to 1 hour 15 minutes to reach the summit. The summit is straight up and does not require you to go left or right.

Look for a flag on the highest point called Nag Tibba “Jhandi” or summit. On the left hand slope from the summit one can get a terrific view of the Himalayan ranges of Swargrohini, Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Srikanta, and Gangotri.

After spending some time at the summit, begin your descent. Retrace your way to Nag Tibba Base. Here, you can see a trail going down into the forest to the right. Two cemented structures mark the beginning of this trail. This is a single trail that goes all the way to Pantwari. Proceed to Dehradun, stopping at Pantwari .
