The sight of the Nanda Devi Massif is the highlight of this trek. So if you want to have some fun in the meadows and on the snowy slopes of the Garhwal Himalayas, pack your rucksacks and head on towards Haridwar.

Itinerary

We will meet at Haridwar railway station at 7 a.m and from here board a vehicle and be driven up to Joshimath. This is a long but interesting drive. You will for most part of the journey drive along the Ganga & Alaknanda rivers. The road goes along hugging the mountain side and you see the forests and valleys of Garhwal below you. Joshimath is a hub for pilgrim tourists traveling to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib. Check in to guest house at Joshimath.

After an early breakfast on this day, we will head off to Dhak village in the Joshimath tehsil, a rocky drive of 45 minutes. From here our trek will commence.

Twenty to twenty-five minutes into the trek, you will be reaching village Kharchi, where you can fill your bottles and take some rest. The trail continues from the village on the same rocky path, keeping the valley to the left. Continue on this path, maintaining a steep climb, leaving the farmland behind and you will find the awe-inspiring sight of Dronagiri peak hauntingly rising at a distance. We will be pitching tents in the open meadows overlooking Dronagiri and fringed around with oak forests.

Today we will starty our day with a few stretching excercises in the morning followed by breakfast. Twenty minutes into the trek, you will come to a green clearing overlooking the magnificent snow peaks.

After a few moments of rest, the climb must continue crossing a little stream to enter a mixed forest slowly thickening with oaks and rhododendrons. If you are coming in late March you might still find some white and pink blossoms. Except rhododendrons, you can find walnut and some other varieties of conifers in here.

We will wake up early (depending upon the conditions and the season, the lead guide will take a call on what time we start but usually it will be 5:00 a.m) and after a quick breakfast start climbing up the slopes of the mountain to reach a ridge which will lead us to the khullara top . Every 15 minutes, you are welcome to take a break and catch your breath. At Jhandi Dhar, a suitable rest point 2 hours into the trek, you can afford a long break. Lunch will be had on the way or after reaching the temple at the base of the Kuari high pass.

From the route leading to the summit and the top you get to see a set of big mountains which you otherwise don’t get to see from Kuari pass region, mountains like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Changbhang and many more. Also very attractive is the views of the surrounding valleys in all directions. After capturing the views in our camera we start walking down to Tali forest camp . After reaching Tali we celebrate our success and relax. Overnight in tents.

Today we will trek towards Auli—the skiing capital of India, and one of the most famous in south Asia. Exploring the beautifully snow patched rolling valleys of Gorson Bugyal, we will come down to Auli through a sweetly enjoyable journey.

Upon reaching Auli, a eady cable-car ride will take you to Joshimath, floating over the magnificent ski resort, the softly undulating snow covered slopes and browning pine forest fringes.

After breakfast board the vehicles and start driving back towards Haridwar. The distance takes about  10 hours to reach excluding the break times so the earlier one starts its always the better. Cherish the picturesque beauty of the location, the avid beauty of nature, the stretched landscapes, the verdant meadows and splendid ambience that pleases the heart in every way.
